Senator Ekwunife – Calls For More Recognition, And Support For Artists
The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District and a frontline Governorship Aspirant for the 2021 Anambra Governorship election, Senator Uche Ekwunife (Adaugo Igbo-Ukwu) has called for more recognition and support for Artists. She said this on Saturday, 22nd August 2020 while attending the grand opening and exhibition of art works at Odenigbo Art Gallery Igbo-Ukwu in Aguata local government area of Anambra State. Speaking at the opening of the Art Gallery founded by an Emeritus Professor of East Tennessee State University College of Medicine USA, Professor Uchenna Nwosu (Odenigbo Igbo-Ukwu), Senator Ekwunife described art as a necessary tool for the exhibition of creativity and sustenance of culture. In her words, “Art is about showcasing creativity and making a visual interpretation of conceptual ideas. This usually involves rigorous efforts by the artist who works day and night to produce a creative work of art.” While appreciating the founder of the Art Gallery, Prof Nwosu for staying back in Igbo-Ukwu to contribute to the development of the community, Aguata and Anambra State at large the Senator called for more support for artists as well as patronage for their works. Senator Ekwunife assured the creative arts community of her willingness to support the growth of the community through necessary legislative interventions and attraction of the attention of relevant government agencies to creative works of art of privately owned art gallaries in the State. She made a donation in support of the Odenigbo Art Gallery. Also present at the event were the Honourable Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Culture & Tourism, Hon.
